ROSEBAY BAZADAISE STUD is situated on the banks of the Burrum River just west of Hervey Bay.

After years of farming at Kumbia, Garah near Moree and Dalby on the Darling Downs Francis & Lesley Smith decided to retire and do a spot of fishing and relaxing.  After 3 months of retirement we purchased a property on the Burrum River as we found our 3 acre retirement block rather boring.

In 1997 we found a gem of land available on the Burrum River surrounded by National Park.  In 2003 we decided we needed to do something sustainable with the land so headed off looking for cattle that could thrive on this very nutrient deficient wallum country.  After seeing the Bazadaise cattle at Field Days over the next couple of years we fell in love with the attributes of the Bazadaise, hence the beginning of Rosebay Bazadaise Stud in early 2006.

At first females were difficult to source, but due to the drought we bought our first Bazadaise and now boast a herd of 112 cattle.  We pride ourselves on the quiet temperament of these top quality cattle.  We can waste quite a lot of time just meandering amongst our herd giving them all a scratch.

Having bred a considerable number of various breeds during our farming life we class the Bazadaise as an excellent breed in tough conditions and exceptional in good conditions with daily weight gains being achieved on good pasture exceeding weight gains of previous breeds in feedlots.

After having put fullbloods and crossbreds in the freezer we now find it extremely disappointing to purchase meat of other breeds.  Perhaps we are now simply spoilt by the quality of the Bazadaise meat we are consuming.
